The Loaves and Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley Inc. (Loaves and Fishes) has been a household name since their Harlingen kitchen first opened in 1991. They have since expanded their services and their reach, now serving areas around Cameron and Willacy counties, offering men’s and women’s shelters, job training and placement, monetary and non-monetary aid, mental health counseling, and community health nursing.
The narrative arc of this community-focused organization echoes our own Team TRB experience in that despite rapid growth and expansion, their mission remains unchanged and at the core of everything they do. So when our Trust and Wealth Management Team sought out opportunities to serve, Loaves and Fishes was a natural choice. The team wanted to collaborate, spend time together off-sight, and help develop the relationships in their team, so they chose a day of service to connect with each other, but also with their community. “We knew if we were going to serve our community, the most impactful way would be to serve an organization like Loaves and Fishes that can maximize our efforts, multiply their effect, help more people,” said Ben Fedorko.
Twenty-two members of Team TRB volunteered last week, preparing and serving a warm meal to community members in need, assembling food bags for families facing food insecurity, stuffing envelopes of newsletters to supporters, and completing routine maintenance and facility upkeep by watering and maintaining the gardens.
Our Trust & Wealth Division demonstrated the heart of what Team TRB is all about, and they showed there’s no better way to build team culture than by being ‘the people you know’ in action in our community.
