TRB is helping preserve an important part of South Padre Island’s history through sponsorship of a new exhibit at the Historical Museum of South Padre Island.
The museum is building its new home at 610 Padre Boulevard, the former location of South Padre Island Visitor’s Center, where visitors will be able to explore the stories and landmarks that shaped the Island’s history. Designed in the style of a historic light station, the 5,000-square-foot space will feature multiple galleries, exhibits, and event space dedicated to preserving South Padre Island’s legacy.

At the center of the museum’s main gallery will be the Fresnel Lens Exhibit, featuring a reproduction of the specialized lighthouse lens that would have been mounted in the Brazos Santiago Light Station (pictured below) around 1887. These lenses were designed to project light across long distances and played a critical role in guiding ships safely through Brazos Santiago Pass.
The reproduction lens is being manufactured and installed by ArtWorks Florida, the same company that installed the Port Isabel Lighthouse Lens in 2022. The new exhibit will help visitors better understand the anatomy of lighthouse lenses and the importance of the Brazos Santiago Light Station to maritime trade and coastal development in South Texas.

“Communities are strengthened by the institutions that preserve their history and give people a stronger connection to place,” said Michael Scaief. “Supporting the Historical Museum of South Padre Island is an investment in preserving the stories and legacy that define the Island for future generations.”
Supporting projects like this is one more way Team TRB continues investing in the communities we serve. Enjoy the photos below and help us celebrate this exciting addition to South Padre Island.
