Our participation steadily grew throughout 2024, but even at our peak, only 90 volunteers—less than 25% of our team—contributed in a single month. Imagine what we could achieve if that number doubled!

Team TRB: In the Spotlight

Each spring, the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo brings together families, students, and communities to celebrate South Texas traditions and invest in the future of youth in agriculture. At the heart of the event is the Sale of Champions, a scholarship fundraising auction that honors the dedication of 4-H and FFA students from across the region.

This year, Team TRB in South Texas rolled up their sleeves to support the 86th Annual Show and contributed to the success of the Sale of Champions. The auction raised scholarship funds to reward students who devoted countless hours to their projects—demonstrating grit, responsibility, and leadership.

From assisting with registration and auction logistics to cheering on students in the show ring, TRB volunteers played a meaningful role throughout the 10-day event. Team members including Rita Garcia, Kenny Miller, Ronda Johnson, Lori Lopez, George Mukhar, Travis Richards, Margot Cabrera, Robert Donalson, and others stepped in to manage logistics, process paperwork, and assist high bidders. Several helped coordinate registration, handle payouts, and organize donations benefiting more than 300 student exhibitors.

Team TRB in South Texas continues to show what it means to show up in the communities we serve, demonstrating what matters to them, matters to us. We succeed when they do.

Central Texas

Youth Sports and Education

Jessie Bishop helped prepare for Opening Day Baseball/Softball with the Johnson City Youth Sports Association.
Maria Chalico worked the concession stand at Blanco ISD and supported the Founders Day bake sale for Blanco Project Graduation.
Diego Guerrero supported youth sports with the Johnson City Youth Sports Association and delivered financial literacy training at Peggy’s Playhouse.
Jamie Oakes read to a classroom on Read Across Comal Day at Bill Brown Elementary and provided financial services to nonprofit groups through Nonprofit Connections Group.
Britany Perez read to a class on Read Across Comal Day at Comal ISD and participated in the BSB annual Clay Shoot.
Josh Walker supported Pieper High School’s performance at the Texas Color Guard Circuit Area Championships.
John Wells volunteered as an assistant coach for Fredericksburg Little League and chaperoned a trip to Austin for Leadership Gillespie County students.

Financial Literacy and Mentorship

Diego Guerrero, Tammy Hocutt, and Tangela Lockeby delivered financial literacy education at senior centers and youth organizations.

Summer Reyes presented on elder financial abuse prevention at Morningside at the Meadows and San Antonio Oasis Lifelong Adventure.

Keri Sandvig taught a Financial Literacy Class to nonprofit groups and participated in events with the IBAT Education Foundation.

Alisyn Powers provided business mentoring through Christian Women’s Job Corps of Kerr County and Financial Women in Texas.

Tracy Harris represented TRB and IBAT as a speaker at the Financial Women in Texas Hill Country Group meeting.

Chambers of Commerce and Business Engagement

Kim Boren, James Ryan Manatt, JoAnn Pantano, Aleigh Wessels, and Zach Townsend participated in various activities with regional chambers including Bulverde Spring Branch, Leander, Liberty Hill, San Marcos, and New Braunfels.

Emily Kirchner engaged with the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce and participated in Leadership Gillespie County programming.

John Wells participated in Fredericksburg Chamber leadership events, including executive and board meetings.

Faith and Church Involvement

Hayes Duffy served as a worship leader and chaperone for the Bishop’s Happening Movement through the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.

Rie Foss volunteered at Hunt United Methodist Church preparing and serving communion.

David DeStefano supported Cheyanna’s Champions 4 Children and the Engage & Heal Foundation gala to reduce mental health stigma.

Summer Reyes oversaw the first fundraising event for the nonprofit Amigo NESA.

Zach Townsend helped coordinate auction logistics for the Bulverde Spring Branch Activity Center gala.

Youth Development and Mentorship

Robert Argueta mentored young athletes at the Rose-Rich Girls Softball Association, focusing on skill-building, strategy, and leadership as a role model.

Lewis Gissel attended a chamber networking event at Central Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and participated in Montgomery County Day at the Capitol through the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber.

Kristy Rodriguez helped host a Coffee and Convos networking event spotlighting TRB employees at Central Fort Bend Chamber.

Iris Salas also organized and hosted Coffee and Convos on behalf of TRB Rosenberg at Central Fort Bend Chamber.

Lisa Ta participated in a nonprofit-focused mixer, a ribbon cutting, and multiple meetings (finance, strategic planning, and monthly board) at Central Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. She also attended a board meeting for Behind the Badge Charities Inc.

Clay Wright attended a networking breakfast at Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce.

Policy, Legislation, and Civic Engagement

Tanya Castro attended the March meetings of the Charitable Gift Planners of Houston and the Houston Business & Estate Planning Council; hosted a Derby-style networking event with Houston Women’s Finance Exchange; and presented the IBAT 2025 Update at the IBAT Education Foundation.

Skip Colvin participated in legislative and government affairs meetings at the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce and served as Director of Services at Fellowship of Montgomery.

Lewis Gissel attended the Spring Branch ISD Bond Oversight Committee meeting as Co-Chair, completed Reading Buddy Orientation for the district, and attended meetings for The Forest Club and the Retina Research Foundation.

Team members in Dallas volunteered for the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Reading Day, inspiring elementary students to develop a love for reading.

Denise Knight supported early literacy by reading to K–3rd-grade students through the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

Jennifer Schiffer also participated in the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas reading program.

Financial Literacy and Education Outreach

Denise Knight delivered weekly financial education sessions through Communities In Schools of North Texas at Denton High School;

Hosted a financial education series for residents of Denton County Friends of the Family, supporting individuals transitioning from shelters;

Conducted semi-monthly youth programs at The Samaritan Inn for children in transitional housing;

Participated in Texas Woman’s University’s “Meet with an Expert” financial literacy series;

Met with Blue Haven Ranch leadership to explore education opportunities;

Kimberly R. Chambless assisted in delivering a financial education workshop to students at Texas Woman’s University.

Team TRB in Dallas attended YPO – Dallas Chapter monthly meetings, a new-member happy hour, and a leadership event on foreign affairs with China, hosted by Lone Star Gold and SRP.

Kimberly R. Chambless attended Metroport Chamber’s Coffee Builder networking events and participated in Success Champions luncheons, happy hours, and weekly Zoom networking.

Denise Knight participated in Leadership Denton, gaining insight into local nonprofits, government, and economic development.

Community Coffee Engagements – “Coffee on TRB”

Kimberly R. Chambless hosted Coffee on TRB events at Higher Grounds Coffee and Record Coffee Supply.

Cody Thompson hosted Coffee on TRB at Record Coffee Supply and organized a community BBQ fundraiser for KYCC.

Ainsley Vizgard hosted Coffee on TRB monthly at Higher Grounds Coffee in Justin, providing free coffee to the public.

Youth Sports and Booster Clubs

Samantha Estep helped plan the Spring Fundraiser for Krum Youth Sports Association, supported its Spring Spectacular, and contributed to the Ponder FFA Booster Club Auction for student livestock participants.

Cynthia Mathis participated in the KYSA Spring Fling with Krum Youth Sports Association.

Matt (Matthew) Martin attended Krum Lions Club meetings, supported Opening Day for Krum Youth Baseball, and served as announcer and scorekeeper for Varsity Baseball through the Pilot Point Booster Club.

Nonprofit & Philanthropic Impact

Cristie Escochea supported initiatives including Blue Haven Ranch, Carroll Education Foundation, Dallas Holocaust & Human Rights Museum, Dallas Trinity FC, Conrad High School PTSA, Forney Highsteppers, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Speedway Children’s Charities, and Texas Regional Bank.

Mimi Tran was a major sponsor of the Me Squared Cancer Foundation, contributing $10,000 in support of newly diagnosed cancer patients.

Michelle Houston coordinated logistics for the American Cancer Society Gala, supported Denton County Lawyers Foundation events like Adoption Day and the New Visitation Center, and organized Amplify Denton, a first-ever music festival benefiting the Greater Denton Arts Council and Denton Music & Arts Collaborative.

Denise Knight attended an American Cancer Society luncheon supporting cancer survivors and research.

South Texas

Diana Delaunay, Alejandro Garcia, Maria Idalia Pena, Marta Rosales, Valeria Suarez, and Norma Weaver-DeOrnellas delivered budgeting, credit, or financial success presentations through Come Dream Come Build, Fundación Amor Infinito, and TRB Wealth Management.

Jose Medina conducted a Q&A on banking for students at Jubilee Academy.

Norma Weaver-DeOrnellas also led financial training sessions for the Brownsville Housing Authority.

Valeria Suarez read a financial literacy book to 2nd graders at Carmen Avila Elementary and gave an investing presentation.

Sylvia Gallegos introduced BaZing to a local coffee shop owner and discussed future banking partnership.

Nayelli Ramirez Lopez promoted TRB at a UTRGV Baseball event.

Civic and Government Engagement

Robert Donalson participated in multiple civic events and EDC meetings in Weslaco.
