October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and in today’s digital age, safeguarding our financial information is more crucial than ever. We can become victims just as easily as our clients and customers. Educating and securing Team TRB is the first step in keeping our clients safe. Use these five best practices to strengthen your security efforts and remember to share them with your clients this month.
1. Use Strong, Unique Passwords
Create complex passwords that combine letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdays. Consider using a password manager to keep track of your unique passwords for different accounts.
2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (TFA)
Add an extra layer of security by enabling TFA on your banking accounts. This requires you to verify your identity through a second method, such as a text message or an authentication app, making it harder for unauthorized users to gain access.
3. Be Mindful of Phishing Scams
Always scrutinize emails and messages claiming to be from your bank. Look for signs of phishing, such as poor grammar or suspicious links. If in doubt, use secure and official contact methods to confirm any requests.
4. Monitor Your Accounts Regularly
Keep a close eye on your bank statements and account activity. Report any unauthorized transactions immediately. Activate account alerts to stay informed about unusualaccount activity.
5. Use Secure Networks
Avoid accessing your bank accounts over public Wi-Fi networks, as they can be less secure. Instead, use a secure and private connection, such as a secured home Wi-Fi network, or a virtual private network (VPN) when banking on the go.
Protect Your Financial Future
We help our clients secure their personal and financial information by recommending these best practices, but we lead by example when we prioritize the safety and security of Team TRB. Together we can create a more secure banking experience for us and for our clients.
