TRB Recognized at IBAT Convention

October 29, 2024

The Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) recently honored TRB with the Best of Community Banking (BOCB) Community Spirit Award for their initiative, The TRB Signature Shrimp Boil, and Tracy Harris, Chief Strategic Planning and Project Officer, was elected to Chair the IBAT board of directors for 2024-25.

TRB Wins Gold

The TRB Signature Shrimp Boil Program began as a community service initiative ten years ago as a way of fostering community relationships through community service while also creating opportunities to invest in local businesses and nonprofits. Through the program, the bank donates shrimp boils to nonprofit organizations who sell them during fundraising auctions. After each shrimp boil is purchased, Team TRB gets to work, sourcing gulf shrimp from Port Isabel, organizing and staffing the event with volunteers, and boiling and serving the shrimp for the auction winners.

Each shrimp boil enables the nonprofits to raise significant funds—over $2,500 on average—selling the events to local stakeholders, businesses, and organizations. Last year, Team TRB planned and executed 30 shrimp boils raising over $85,000 for nonprofits across Texas. TRB’s signature shrimp boils highlight the bank’s commitment to engaging with communities, supporting local causes, and fostering employee involvement beyond traditional banking, and they underpin one of the bank’s primary beliefs, that ‘we succeed when our communities succeed.’

Harris Takes the Chair

Harris has served as a member of the IBAT board of directors, and on various committees of the association, since 2018, and will now serve as Chair for 2024-2025. Harris is an active member in the community bank industry and expects to carry her momentum into her new role on IBAT’s executive board.

Harris shared Team TRB’s relationship style of banking and core values during her pinning ceremony and new chairperson address, saying, “Community banks make business personal and human. We make a difference in our communities when we show we’re about more than transactions—that we’re about personal relationships.”

Among the initiatives she hopes to highlight during her tenure this year, Harris hopes to create more space for women in banking. At TRB, Harris is assisting the launch of the Women in Leadership Initiative: Encourage, founded on the belief that women in community banking can bring unique leadership qualities and insights that help shape strategies tailored to a broader range of customers—to better reflect, and better serve, local communities.

President and CEO of IBAT, Christopher Williston VI sits with Tracy Harris of TRB during her new-chairman’s address.
